Identifying Breguet No. 1030.
How Charlie Potters helped identify a rare Breguet watch that sold at Nye & Company in 2019.
Reported December 2019
An estate watch entered a Nye & Company auction with little fanfare. When bidding rose unexpectedly, the lot was withdrawn for further study.
In a December 2019 report, Worn & Wound described how Charlie Potters, Nye’s watch specialist, investigated Breguet No. 1030. A comparison with another auction record led to an extract from the manufacturer’s archives, which helped establish the watch’s rarity and connect it to the original purchaser’s family.
The watch subsequently sold for $90,625, including the buyer’s premium. The result belongs to this particular historical sale; it is not an estimate for another object.
This is a case reported in the press, presented here as context for Charlie’s work. It is not a Rara Avis inventory listing.
